In the Southern states they have warm climates that are good for farming. They grew cotton, corn, and lots of large crops. Southern farmers used African slaves to work their farms. By using slaves farmers could make more money on their crops. During the Civil War, the Southern states wanted to leave the Union because they wanted the right to keep slaves.
The Union was the United States after independence from England. It was mostly the eastern part of the continent. The northern part of the Union did not have slavery. Many people in the north didn’t like slavery.
The southern states didn’t want to give up the right for slavery because they didn’t want to lose money or go broke. The southern states didn’t know how to make money without slaves. The southern states decided to leave Union so they could keep the right to keep slaves. The fight over slaves began the U.S Civil War.

The Cay
This book The Cay is about a boy named Phillip and a man named
Timothy. Phillip and his mom left their home in the Caribbean to go back to their old home in the United States because they are getting attacked during ww2.
I think Phillip is brat and is mean to Timothy and needs to be more helpful to Timothy in lots of things even though he is blind.
I think Timothy is a nice man but needs to be more nicer to Phillip. I think he needs to help Phillip out and not be so mean.

This is my battering ram I made in 6th grade social studies class. The battering ram was used by the Assyrians and Babylonia and .The roof was used to keep hot oil from getting on the people who are in the battering ram. They used it to knocked down walls or doors. The battering ram is just a large, heavy log carried by several people or they used wheels. They used chains or rope to tie the big log to the battering so it can swing back and forth to smash down the gates, empires,or doors. They put a metal head so it had a better effect when they hit a target. The battering ram was most effective against wooden gates and doors.
